According to Science Pioneers Inc., Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics – STEM, and therefore STEM education – are vital to our future – the future of our country, the future of our region and the future of our children.

Tindley Accelerated Schools understand the importance and relevance of STEM in education and as a career path. In order to keep our scholars competitive, Tindley must offer scholars opportunities within our curriculum to cultivate a knowledge of STEM related initiatives and professions.

Through a partnership with our friends at Nextech, Tindley offers Computer Science Discoveries I in 7th grade and Computer Science Discoveries II in 9th grade. These courses cover a range of topics including programming, physical computing and data. Students engage with Computer Science as a medium for creativity, communication and problem solving.

Building upon the skills and knowledge learned in the CS Discoveries classes, at 11th or 12th grade scholars can choose to take Computer Sciences Principles as an elective course in their schedules.

Our scholars have also had the opportunity to participate in Nextech’s Catapult program. For Central Indiana high school students who wish to pursue a career in technology, Catapult is a yearlong immersive experience that combines industry-relevant curriculum, work-based learning, career readiness and civic leadership opportunities. Catapult leverages strategic partnerships with leading tech companies and community organizations to deliver a best-in-class experience at every level.

This is Tindley Class of 2017 member, Nigel Green, who participated in the 2016-2017 Catapult cohort.

Nigel says, “Catapult is amazing, and I love it! I can’t imagine where I would be without this program.”
